Scott Stevens was known as a highly physical and tough defenseman during his playing career. As a key player for the New Jersey Devils, he played hard and physical but was generally regarded as a clean and tough competitor, not a dirty player. Scott Stevens had a long NHL career playing 22 seasons after being drafted 5th overall in the 1982 NHL entry draft by the Washington Capitals. Spending his first 8 seasons in Washington, one season in St. Louis and then finishing out his career in New Jersey playing thirteen seasons while helping win three Stanley Cups with the team and winning the Conn Smythe trophy in 2000 and captaining the team for 12 seasons. During his time in the NHL he also played in thirteen all star games.

He finished his career playing in 1635 games, collecting 196 goals and 712 assists for 908 points.

Internationally Scott played for Canada in four World Championships, the Canada Cup in 1991 where he helped win the country a gold medal, the World Cup of Hockey and he also played in the 2000 Olympics.
